Springbok’s Muscle Health Platform Gains Support from AFL Physiotherapists Association
MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA — July 14, 2025 — Springbok Analytics (www.springbokanalytics.com), a leader in AI-powered muscle imaging and analysis, today announced a new partnership with the AFL Physiotherapists Association (AFLPTA), expanding its presence across elite Australian sport. The collaboration formalises Springbok’s work with interested AFLM and AFLW clubs and furthers its momentum with several top-tier clubs already using the platform.
The agreement establishes a muscle health database for AFLW athletes led by the AFLPTA. Already trusted across the EPL, NBA, WNBA, NFL, MLB, and NHL, Springbok is the go-to platform for objective, muscle-specific analysis. It supports physiotherapists, strength and conditioning coaches, and medical staff in making more personalised, data-informed decisions.
The AFLPTA is helping lead the evolution of athlete care by advancing tools that extend beyond traditional assessments. With Springbok, clubs gain access to individualised insights that support ongoing monitoring and informed decision-making.
“This partnership reflects the AFLPTA’s commitment to helping the individual AFL athlete and pushing the boundaries of what is possible in performance healthcare,” said Scott Magargee, CEO and Co-Founder of Springbok Analytics. “AFL athletes are globally recognised for their unique physical capabilities. It’s forward-thinking leadership from the AFLPTA, who are deeply invested in providing tools that improve visibility into muscle health, and Springbok is excited to partner with the AFLPTA and its member clubs.”
“For years we’ve relied heavily on functional tests and visual assessments,” said Andrew Lambart, Head Physiotherapist at Hawthorn FC and President of the AFLPTA. “Springbok gives us actual muscle data. That’s a significant step forward. When that data is contextualised within sport-specific averages, it becomes even more powerful. With the AFLM database already live and the AFLW database launching in time for the 2025 season, we’re building a shared resource that will inform better decisions and enable ongoing learning across the league.”
Springbok’s platform integrates into standard MRI workflows, automatically segmenting over 140 muscles from a single rapid scan. It provides detailed metrics on muscle volume, symmetry, fat infiltration, tendon size, and related musculoskeletal features such as edema and scar tissue. The technology is used across elite sport, research, and life sciences, and is now tailored to meet the unique demands of Australian Rules Football.
“This isn’t just a performance tool,” said Magargee. “Whether we’re supporting an Olympic gold medalist or someone returning from surgery, muscle health tells a powerful story. We’re excited to help Australian sports science and performance health experts – seen worldwide as leaders in this space – write the next chapter.”
